I bought this one first and have used it for nearly 2 yrs - no WS-500/510 at that time. Who's zooming who.3) Does NOT charge battery, even if using rechargeable AAA NiMH, when attached to computer.WS-500/510 do, thankfully - but those do not have music capabilities, if important to you (it's not to me - that's for my iPod).4) For the price, my recommendatn: the WS-500 or WS-510 models. 21 hrs battery life.
Clarity great; ability to set speeds/quality is wonderful; there is a learning curve to use it but it's manageable (do it AHEAD of your need, though - a tricky little DVR). Why no "off" switch. MY USES: Recording speakers and lecturers; research (one-on-one interviews); telephone recording through Olympus phone recorder cable system (highly recommended)** Olympus RULES the DVR market, IMHO.
No idea. It has served it purposes well, but the 500/510 are now better choices. High quality feel in hand and discreet; others tend to forget it's there, which sometimes is important when interviewing.1) Excellent recorder for all purposes, including recording crucial phone calls as needed; just be sure to carry batteries (sigh.).
as you will lose recordings if battery dies in the process.2) HORRIBLE battery life/set-up as you cannot shut this off - move a slider to "hold" and supposedly preserve battery - not in my experience.
It saves lots of time and works like a dream. I love this item. I work for our local newspaper and use it often to tape paper routes for new carriers and such.
Simply add a pair of preamplified stereo speakers to its jack sit back and listen to your recordings as if they had been recorded by a Professional recording studio. Very nice good sounding recorder, has mulitple high end features.A delight to use, and a remarkable sound to it, its sensitivityis additionally beyond imagination.
I needed a digital recorder with more time for our 2 month trip to Europe where I will be recording relatives about family history. I bought this recorder because the model which has 132 hours of recording worked extremely well giving me absolute confidence in this version which has 555 hours on slow play. I would recommend any in this series without hesitation. The size and weight are perfect for shirt or pants pocket. It picks up a group conversation outdoors at night around a campfire with planes flying overhead. The audio is excellent and all (even the quietest speakers) can be heard clearly.
Battery life is excellent even on those below 20 degree nights no one wants to talk about. With a little practice, the operator can locate and activate the "record" button, which is placed conveniently at the top of the control buttons on the side of the recorder, in a nonchalant manner as to not alert the subject. I highly recommend this recorder become part of every law enforcement professional's "tool kit." The WS-331 Digital Voice Recorder is a "perfect fit" into the shirt pocket of a law enforcement professional to capture those spontaneous or excited utterances, which usually come only once at the scene. The overall size of the recorder makes it almost invisible in the uniform shirt pocket.
